Zebra's Care in Columbus

On Wednesday November 21st, the National Hockey League Officials Association's "Zebra's Care" charity welcomed Shannon Eaton and her family to the Columbus Blue Jackets game versus the Florida Panthers. Shannon is part of the Easter Seals program of greater Columbus. Easter Seals provides exceptional services for people with disabilities or special needs. Attending the game with Shannon was her mother, father, sister Victoria and brother Christian.
The night started with Shannon and her family being escorted down to the officials room by Community Relations director Kate Furman. It became apparent after meeting with Shannon for a few minutes that she was a huge hockey fan. Myself along with fellow NHL officials Eric Furlatt, Justin St. Pierre and David Brisebois greeted the family and presented Shannon with autographed game pucks.
We noticed that Shannon's mom and dad were huge Fredrick Modin fans, however, Shannon was not quite sure on her favorite player. She was sure that her favorite team was the Columbus Blue Jackets.
After visiting with her family, the entire group went out to the Zamboni entrance for a group photograph. Shannon seemed quite excited about this. She had a huge smile on her face as she said, "I have never been this close to the ice before!" Although the meet and greet only lasted a short time, we throughly enjoyed our time with Shannon and her family. Hopefully she will remember this night for a long time. I know we will !
This night could not have happened if not for the generousity and thoughtfullness of the Community Relations department of the Columbus Blue Jackets, especially Kate Furman.
Our association thanks you very much! The attached photo was taken by photographer Jamie Sabau.
