Pittsburgh Zebras Care Visit
NHL Officials meet with the Boys and Girls Club of McKeesport, PA.
A great night for hockey in Pittsburgh was Dec.11 2008 as we met 10 huge Pens fans from the Boys and Girls Club in McKeesport Pa. These great fans were Evan Reed, Caleb Reist, Brandon Reed, Dylan Ernst, Thomas Fichera, Joshua Reist, Chad Todd, Rebekah Reist, Tom Maglicco[ Staff Supervisor], Dennis Reist [Chaperone].
Our team of NHL Officials Brain Murphy, Darren Gibbs, Ian Walsh and myself were probable the luckiest team on that night. We had the privilege of meeting 8 great kids before the game.
They came down to the room before the game and entered with some hesitation, but that did not last long. We didn't even make it through all the introductions and the ice was broken. The smiles and laughter began to flow, but I still don't know who had the bigger smiles us or them. We talked about many different things but mainly the big up coming game that they were going to watch from Sid the Kids' box.
We gave out some gifts to the kids and a sweater for the Boys and Girls Club. The most fun was watching the kids dawn our sweaters for the pictures we took together. Some of the sweaters almost hung all the way to the floor, but you could hardly notice because of the huge bright smiles that the kids were sporting. The time we spent together was short but what a great time was had by all.
Sometimes we get so busy and caught up in our own lives that we forget to slow down and smell the roses. I think maybe we're the lucky ones during these visits because it gives us a chance to see the world again through a childs' eyes.
So i just want to say thank-you to our wonderful visitors, and the chance to see the world through a kids' eyes again.
