Zebras Care in Dallas
Monday, October 19, 2009
With the help of Hockey Fights Cancer and Zebras Care programs, Wednesday night in Dallas will be a memorable evening that will forever touch our hearts. Brad Watson, Lonnie Cameron, Ian Walsh, and I were fortunate enough to meet three courageous children and their families who are engaged in the fight of a lifetime.

Jordan Flint, 5 years old, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in March of 2008. Her mother Jodie and father Joel joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk later that fall and raised more than $45,000 with the help of friends and family.

This was a special night for 14 year-old Jayson Long. He was recognized during the game's second intermission for his tireless commitment to the cancer community. Jayson has spoken at many fundraising events sharing his story and encouraging others to help put an end to these diseases through their support of both research and patient programs.

Summer Simons, 4 years old, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia on October 13, 2006. After one relapse and a bone marrow transplant, Summer is celebrating 21 months of being cancer free! Summer's entire family was on hand to celebrate this special anniversary of her fight against blood cancer.

On behalf of the National Hockey League Officials Association and Zebras Care program, we were able to give the children some souvenirs. It was incredible to share this evening with the children as they had smiles big enough to fill the room. What an honor to make them part of our team for the evening! It was truly a great night for all and we wish these children and their families all the best!

We would like to thank Carla Rosenberg of the Dallas Stars for her help in making this visit possible.
