Sad news in the world of officiating today with news of the passing of Gregg Madill. Gregg was an NHL referee for 12 years. He passed away suddenly at his winter home in Kissimmee, Florida on December 5, 2011.

He was born in Toronto on July 15, 1944 to Margret Grace Farenick [Little] and George Edward Madill.

Gregg had a career as an NHL referee for 12 years and became a residential building contractor in the Durham area and, later, in North Kawartha.

He is survived by his wife, Judy Madill, and sons, Jeffrey Greg Madill [Oshawa] and Robert Glenn Madill [Kansas City, Mo]. He is also survived by his step daughter Sarah Ann Roy [Sudbury,On] and her husband Chris.

Gregg was a loving grandfather to Emma Aitchison-Madill, Austin Roy, Lauryn Roy, Paige Roy, Morgann Madill and Mathew Madill.
